Getting ready for summer holidays

Soon we will be looking forward to the summer holidays. This newsletter includes many family activities, fun maths and thinking skills ideas to be enjoyed by the whole family. Use the ideas to enjoy family time together.

Ideas for summer Now's the time to get out and about. Our section on the World Around Us has got lots of pages to help identify the things we see around us - Trees, Birds and Flowers. Try the Sealife activities if you go to the beach, and learn about Tides.


Thinking skills These are fun to do together and challenge each other to arrive at the correct answer first. Have fun! Brain teasers 2 will give all the family something to think about, as will Can you work these out? Puzzles for All is another challenge for the family to enjoy together.

Science Fun experiments with food is an ideal summer holiday activity. Make use of the time together to try Experiments with dissolvingFun science experiments and Science experiments for home. We have science pages to cover the entire KS1 and KS2 curriculum in teaching order as well as dozens of complementary activities on the Worksheet Finder, so try these to ensure your child is prepared for next year.


Foundation Stage  Some children will be starting school in September so these ideas will be good preparation for your children to enjoy with you and help give them a happy start at school. Early pencil skills benefit from Colour these pictures and young ones will enjoy The Tale of Tom Kitten and The Very Hungry Caterpillar worksheet.


KS1 English All children love a bedtime story, so make the most of the extra time over the summer and follow up next day with some of our Book activities including the Little Red Hen writing topic and Jacqueline Wilson book activities


Fun maths It is important that children enjoy maths and working together on these fun pages makes it much more enjoyable and at the same time reinforces learning. Try Fun maths for KS1, Fun maths for KS2 and enjoy Fun maths for all the family together.

KS2 English Children enjoy imaginary situations and these pages extend imagination - Trouble in the kitchen on Jupiter, increase vocabulary - Words, words, words, and enhance enjoyment of our language -  Poems for KS2.

KS2 maths Mental maths can be used as a fun activity for all the family. See who can complete the magic circles first! Help learning with our Worksheet on rounding numbers and Ratio and see how quick your child is with Mental maths Year 3a.

KS3 English All these papers will be valuable preparation for Years 7, 8 and 9. Thoughts on drama and music for KS3, Reading and comparing poems and The Tempest Act III, scene 2.
