Getting ready for tests and exams

Dear [NAME],

Many children will take tests and exams during the Summer Term. This newsletter will help you build up your child's confidence and spot any areas where some extra help will be valuable. Even if your child is not sitting formal tests, e.g. if you educate at home, now is still an excellent time to review the year's work using the resources in this newsletter and on the site. You want your young ones to approach tests and exams in a positive manner. They will appreciate advice and reassurance as to how to revise, study and approach tests which can be found here: How to help your child succeed in examinations and Help your child at home with test scores. The advice in Help with revision KS3 will help older pupils. These resources will prepare pupils and help them to achieve the best possible results without adding stress or worry.
Foundation Stage children can review and revise all areas of learning by using our topics. These are enjoyable to do together - try them during the summer holidays to keep your child's learning on track.
2016 SATS - KS1 The new national curriculum will be assessed for the first time in May 2016 and there will be new tests for Key Stage 1, On Parents in Touch you can find links to the draft framework tests from the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) as well as some sample tests.
2016 SATS - KS2 These sample tests will give children an idea of the type of questions they will encounter in the SATS tests. We have included a few here - many more are on the site. The SATS tests will be administered during the week beginning 9 May 2016. Some schools will also do Science SATS papers.
worksheet KS1 SATS type and revision papers It's not just children in Year 2 and Year 6 who will take tests and benefit from revision papers. Whatever year your child is in, the Summer Term is the perfect time to consolidate learning by looking at revision papers.
KS2 SATS type and revision papers Most schools will do practice SATS papers with children in the weeks before the SATS test. These papers help to extend and elaborate on the principles and formats used in actual SATS papers and help children become accustomed to different types of questions.

KS2 revision It's not only Year 6 children who will benefit from revision. Below, you will find a small selection of revision pages covering topics children will study in KS2. If you use the 'Search' facility and type in 'revision', you will find many more on all subjects. You can also use the Worksheet Finder to search for specific subjects.
KS3 revision We have a wide range of revision resources for KS3. The best way to locate them all is through the Worksheet Finder and searching on 'Revision and SATS type' for your chosen subject.
11+ and Common Entrance The entry to a new school is always a challenging time for both parents and pupils. There are so many decisions as to which type of school is best for your child. Using some of these papers will help you have an idea of the level at which your child is working.
Home educating All the resources on Parents in Touch are just as applicable to home educators as to parents of children in formal school. You will find our pages on 'How to help your child with...' especially helpful.

Best wishes
