Botley The Coding Robot We started by going through the instruction booklet so that we knew (roughly) what we were doing. The buttons on the remote programmer are clear and easy to understand so your child shouldn't need to spend much time getting to grips with it. There are two modes on the bottom of Botley - Code and Line. Starting with simple coding we followed the instructions to start moving Botley around using sequences such as: FORWARD, FORWARD, RIGHT, RIGHT, FORWARD. You can then add steps to the sequence once Botley has completed his moves; add in the additional steps you want Botley to make and then press 'transmit' and he will complete the original sequence and the additional steps. The sequence can be cleared by pressing the 'clear' button. We tried a few sequences of our own and you can be helped out by using the Coding Cards; use the cards to keep track of the steps that you have programmed in to Botley, and these are also colour coordinated to match the buttons on the programmer. Forest School Adventure Forest Schools are becoming very popular in schools, and rightly so, as they are invaluable in redressing the balance of indoor and outdoor experiences. They provide exciting and stimulating activities, encouraging risk-taking in a safe environment; my attention was initially caught by the generous number of photos in the book, which really show the activities and the children's enjoyment so well. Learn how to light a fire without matches, build a shelter to sleep in, cook on a fire, hunt for bugs and much more. From essential bushcraft basics and Stone Age survival skills to joyful outdoor play. There are four sections - Bushcraft, Wild Food, Nature Awereness and Games. Read on...

Inside the front cover, the 18 different species of penguin are shown, with clear identifying features. Readers will learn ten fascinating facts about penguins, which will make them appreciate their incredible lives and the places they live. Hanko Clulow's detailed illustrations show the penguins in their natural habitat and in family groups, showing us clearly how these birds live. Also, there are five ways in which each one of us can help look after the future of the penguin. Read on...
10 Reasons to Love...A Lion In contrast to the penguin, there is just one species of lion. Again, the lions are depicted in excellent colour illustrations by Hanko Clolow, which show these magnificent beasts against a range of their natural settings, along with many other creatures (and plants too), all labelled in the pictures. The writing style is informal and appealing for children. Fascinating facts give 10 reasons to love lions.
