Rhymes with their meanings

All babies enjoy nursery rhymes. It is so natural for a mother with an upset baby to rock the baby and sing to her. Of course the baby cannot understand the words but it is not long before a newborn starts to react to the sound of her mother’s voice. Speaking, singing and reciting all help to create a bond between the mother and child.

Most Nursery rhymes involve repetition and this is exactly what baby needs to start learning. Often one of the first words that a baby says is ..again! The history behind nursery rhymes is fascinating although the true explanations can be gruesome e.g.Ring a Ring of Roses which describes people falling down dead due to the Great Plague!
